Biography

 

Juan Fernando Polo is a Master in the Fine Arts. He was born in 1943 and currently lives in Cali, Colombia, where he works as a painter and runs his own artist workshop.

He specializes in:

- Artistic drawing and painting

- Mural painting

- Advertising drawings

- Is known to be a Master of the human figure.


Polo is considered an expert of the human figure, he graduated from the Instituto Departamental de Bellas Artes in Cali, Colombia, where he later became a professor and served as head of the Department of Painting for 18 years, he was the first young professor. He also served as a teacher of drawing at the Liceo Francés and as a professor of commercial art at the Instituto Popular de Cultura de Cali. He also studied mural and silkscreen in Mexico City.

Currently, Polo shares his knowledge of drawing and painting at his studio where he focuses on teaching human anatomical drawing, and where he continues with the development of his work uninterruptedly. His work is loaded with visual and technical variation, where his sketches, pens, oils, watercolors and mixed media are highlighted.

 

Awards

 

In 2006, Polo received a tribute for the 25 years of his artist workshop, and an official Recognition from the Instituto Departamental de Bellas Artes (Departmental Institute of Fine Arts).

In 2010, he received the Award Order of Democracy "Simon Bolivar” in the level of “Great Knight Cross” for being a Master of the Human Figure. Named as such by the Critics including Oscar Betancourt, Ricardo Rondón, Dr. Alvaro Morales (r.i.p.), Ivan Montoya, and renowned by all the artists of great recognition at the national and international level of the Cali community.
